History of the Jungle Flower Home Tiki Bar

We didn't really keep track of our progress, specially in the early years' but these posts show some of the evolution of our space:

Lina’s 7’7″ Moai

We bought this 7’7″ foam Moai from an event company during COVID: Rene taught me his recipe for papercrete (a mix of paper and cement) and I applied it to the outside of the Moai. It took over two bags of cement and soooo much shredded paper to make it. I built up his nose […]

Tiki Room History – 2020

The main parts of the tiki room were complete, but there’s always small things to be done. Once again, a big thanks to Tiki Tom-Tom for some of these pictures. The Filipino collection was growing and being displayed: Lina found a great aquarium that leaks. We still need to find something to do with this.

The (Semi) Living Wall

I’ve long admired living walls in homes and businesses. The soothing green and feeling of nature brought indoors especially during the pandemic when we’re feeling anxious and can’t leave our house. I love living walls, but I was also afraid to lose our mirrored wall. In July, we went to a garage sale at an

Faux Velvet Painting Painting

I’m so happy to finally complete this project! (thank you corona virus). A couple of years ago I took a seminar at Tiki Oasis by Eric October called Tiki on Black Paper. During the class, Eric showed us how to make a faux velvet painting using black construction paper, a stencil, and colored pencils. I

Tiki Room History – 2019

At this point, the timeline is a mess. We’ve been to Tiki Oasis, C.A.T.T., and Ohana and want to step up our game now that we’ve joined the FOM. Things are happening and people are asking us for photos of our bar, but we haven’t been taking any. So the following pictures represent our progress

Tequila’s New Raised Platform Feeding Station

Cholo and Tequila’s food and water dishes are usually placed in front of this Witco-esque bar. Cholo was getting pretty weak in his old age and I decided to build him a raised feeding station to match the bar so he didn’t have to bend down as much. I went online to figure out the

FOM Book Stands

I was going to a trade show where I have to display all the book’s I’ve written along with some vintage books from my industry that people like to see. Usually I get a mishmash of book-stands from Michael’s, but I decided to build my own this time around and play with some different techniques.

Tiki Torches for the Tiki Room

We picked some Tiki torches for next to nothing at an estate sale and wanted to install them inside out Tiki room. Rumamok saw the “Feit Electric 3-Watt T60 Flame Design LED Light Bulb Soft White” bulbs at Home Depot and came up with the idea of inserting them into the torches so we could

Rene made a moai for Lina earlier in the year that is about 4′ tall using his sprayed cement techniques perfected making her waterfall. Then he decided to see if he could carve Tikis, which he did spectacularly, as usual.

Kanaloa Painting

This was the first tiki painting I attempted. The painting is of my favorite tiki at the moment, Kanaloa. He’s known by different names throughout Polynesia; Ta’aroa, Tangaroa, and Tangaloa. On some islands he is the supreme god and creator and on other islands he is one of the children of the main gods. On
