I gave Lina a bar sink for Christmas with plans to build a bar similar to her existing one. So I drew up some plans in Fusion 360:
Then we built some cardboard cutouts to see how it would actually look in the space:
Now I needed some tools to actually do fine woodworking for the first time. We bought the table saw in December, but I wasn’t able to use it until March thanks to a series of errors from the seller.
Once we had the tools, it was time to buy some wood and cut it down to size:
Then I had to edge-band all of the plywood:
Then I put all of the pieces together in a dry fit to get the final dimensions for the bar top:
Then I cut out the bar top and edge banded the front:
Then I applied pre-aging, Rubio Monocoat, and Rubio finishing oil to all the surfaces:
Then it was time to glue it all together, the part I hated the most until I had to caulk the edges:
Then I had to make mahogany dowels for all the front exposed edges, and cut them to fit the angles:
Then I had to make a shelf for the top:
In the end, I think it looks pretty good.
The plumbing wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be because the Chinese sink supplier didn’t send all the necessary parts, and the pieces I did have weren’t compatible with North American plumbing standards, but I managed to cobble something together that works:
But it’s not finished yet. I still have to make something permanent to cover the plumbing from the back, and we may add some carvings on the front. But it’s good enough for now.
