The 100-mile winds have taken a toll on our outdoor Tikis; as you can see by the chunks taken out of this guy. Almost every one have been have been blown over at least once, so…

in keeping our tradition of sticking poles up Moais and Tikis; I decided to fill them up with hard and expandable foam so we can add some support to hopefully keep them upright during the next wind storm. This guy was so badly damaged, I had to cut off the bottom fifth on him.

Now we’ll be able to pound some rebar and place him any where we want in the yard and he won’t blow over:

The original Tiki was a little more complicated because he sits on the concrete. I wanted to make a base like this:

but I had to glue three pieces of wood together to make it happen. All of my planes are dull, so I quickly built this flattening jig that I was pretty proud of. However, it just worked OK. Definitely some room for improvement:

Then Lina practiced her carving skills and we burned it before bolting a 1/2 reddi-rod in the center of it.

Then we slowly inserted the reddi-rod into the foam inside the Tiki. It shouldn’t tip over any time soon.
